In a moment that affirms the power of innovation and community-centered leadership, Gwinnett County has been honored with the prestigious 2025 Georgia County Excellence Award for its groundbreaking Situational Awareness and Crime Response Center (SACRC). This award, presented by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia in partnership with Georgia Trend magazine, shines a light on forward-thinking county programs that improve quality of life while being fiscally responsible.
For Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson, the honor is more than just recognition—it’s a celebration of the people and purpose behind Gwinnett’s public safety efforts.
“This recognition is a testament to the innovation, collaboration and commitment of our public safety professionals who work tirelessly to keep Gwinnett safe,” she shared. “The SACRC exemplifies how technology and teamwork can come together to protect lives, support law enforcement, and build stronger, more connected communities.”
The SACRC is not just a room full of screens and software—it’s the heart of a new era in public safety. Powered by real-time data, advanced technology, and interagency cooperation, the center helps officers respond faster and smarter to emergencies. With tools like flock cameras, license plate readers, and integrated community-based surveillance, the SACRC analyzes active 911 calls and public safety alerts to guide law enforcement decisions on the spot.
The results speak volumes. In 2024 alone, the SACRC helped locate nearly 80 stolen vehicles, assisted in over 250 arrests, and reunited 12 missing persons with their families. These are more than just numbers—they are lives protected and hope restored.
The program was first greenlit by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners in 2020, and its evolution has become a symbol of what’s possible when counties invest boldly in the future.
Gwinnett joins just five other counties across the state in receiving this year’s Excellence Award. According to Dave Wills, Executive Director of ACCG, the award reflects the “innovative spirit and ingenuity” of county leaders who rise to meet the challenges of today with the vision of tomorrow.
As Gwinnett continues to lead with purpose, its example is clear: when communities prioritize safety through smart investments and strong partnerships, excellence isn’t just a goal—it becomes a way of life.
