The Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) is the primary law enforcement agency for unincorporated Gwinnett County, one of the largest county police departments in Georgia. This hub covers department leadership and safety resources, and anchors Good Morning Gwinnett’s crime and public-safety coverage.

Department Leadership

Chief J.D. McClure has led the Gwinnett County Police Department since August 2021. Since taking over, Chief McClure has emphasized building community trust and reducing violent crime, and continues to be a visible presence at community and business events across the county.

What GCPD Covers

GCPD provides patrol, investigations, and traffic enforcement for unincorporated Gwinnett County; cities such as Lawrenceville, Peachtree Corners, Duluth, Suwanee, Snellville, and Norcross maintain their own municipal police departments that handle law enforcement within city limits. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office separately manages the county jail and civil process.

Public Safety Resources

GCPD offers residents a range of programs and resources, including a Citizens Police Academy, crime-reporting tools, and neighborhood safety programs. Good Morning Gwinnett covers public safety issues affecting Gwinnett residents as part of our ongoing local news coverage.
