Gwinnett Transit Plan

The Gwinnett Transit Plan lays the groundwork for the future of transit in the county over the next 30 years, aiming to boost mobility through proposed enhancements. This includes upgrades and expansions to existing local bus and microtransit services, an airport shuttle to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, high-capacity transit systems, and additional transit transfer facilities.

How will the Transit Plan improve our current services?

Currently, our Ride Gwinnett transit system does not cover all desired areas, with only 11 percent of residents living within walking distance of existing transit stops. This plan introduces the first-ever 100 percent transit coverage by expanding microtransit, enabling more residents to access various locations. While MARTA is not part of this new Transit Plan, the plan includes connectivity to several MARTA stations and offers free transfers to and from MARTA within a three-hour window, though MARTA continues to operate independently from Ride Gwinnett. Is MARTA included in this Transit Plan?

No, MARTA operates separately and is not included in the new Transit Plan. However, our transit options will connect to several MARTA stations, providing extended regional connectivity and allowing free transfers to and from MARTA within a three-hour period.

Is heavy rail included in this plan?

No, heavy rail is not included in the current Transit Plan. Instead, the plan incorporates a variety of services that aim to serve and connect the entire Gwinnett County.

Why should I consider this plan if I prefer driving?

While many rely on personal vehicles, this plan offers additional transportation options, including access to the airport, which could ease road congestion and benefit everyone, including those who may not own a vehicle or are unable to drive.

Can we invest in more car lanes?

Expanding roads is limited by available land and can lead to increased congestion in high-traffic areas. The Transit Plan recommends utilizing technology to enhance travel efficiency and convenience. For instance, the Ride Gwinnett app allows users to book microtransit and paratransit trips, set pick-up and drop-off locations, choose trip dates and times, specify passenger numbers, and view specific transit zones like Lawrenceville and Snellville.
