Yesterday, I had the distinct honor of participating as a panelist at the Career Exploration Night, an event collaboratively organized by the Peachtree Corners Rotary Club, the Peachtree Corners Business Association, and the Southwest Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. This enriching event was specially designed for the students of Norcross High School and Paul Duke High School in Gwinnett County, Georgia, both of which are renowned for their exceptional STEM programs.

At Norcross High School, the STEM program emphasizes innovative learning and practical applications in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Similarly, Paul Duke High School offers a robust STEM curriculum, focusing on preparing students for the ever-evolving technological landscape. These programs are instrumental in shaping the minds of future leaders and innovators.

The evening commenced with an introduction to Michelle Honda, an inspiring educator from Norcross High School. Her fervor and unwavering commitment to her students’ success set a motivational tone for the event.

I was privileged to share the panel with Eohan, a drone engineer, and Roy, whose company specializes in AI products for senior citizens. The panel, adeptly moderated by Bill Diehl, the president of the Peachtree Corners Rotary, covered a range of topics relevant to today’s dynamic job market. We encountered students with diverse ambitions, including a future environmental engineer and a business management aspirant. Notably, Sofia, a senior student, expressed her deep passion for pursuing a career in Cybersecurity.

A highlight of the event was the awarding of $1,000 scholarships to five deserving students, aiding them in their educational pursuits.

In a conversation with Ashley Boggs, the Public Image Chair of the Rotary, I learned about the vast network of about 60 Rotary clubs in the metro area. Ashley informed me of their involvement in community initiatives, such as supporting the community garden at Stripling Elementary.

The Rotary Club, an integral part of this event, plays a crucial role in community service and development. These clubs focus on addressing local and international issues, fostering peace, and promoting ethical standards. They undertake various projects ranging from health care, education, and environmental sustainability to supporting local businesses and educational institutions.

The event was not only a platform for career exploration but also a testament to the collaborative efforts of educational institutions and community organizations like the Rotary Club. It was a fulfilling experience to meet and interact with such dedicated individuals and to contribute to this enlightening event.
