The City of Lawrenceville officially welcomed newly elected City Council members Randy Travis (Post 3) and Bryant Harris (Post 4) during a swearing-in ceremony held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Mayor David Still administered the oath of office before friends, family, and current council members. Both officials will begin their terms on January 1, 2026, following the November 2025 municipal election.

Council Member Randy Travis (Post 3) was sworn in with his wife of 41 years, Joan, holding the Bible. A retired investigative journalist, Travis spent 45 years reporting for television stations across the Southeast, including more than three decades at WAGA-TV FOX 5 Atlanta. His distinguished career includes a Peabody Award, two national Edward R. Murrow Awards, and more than 20 regional Emmy Awards.

A graduate of the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Travis has lived in Gwinnett County since 1990. He and his wife are active members of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church and the Saint Vincent de Paul ministry, and they are longtime supporters of the Aurora Theatre. Since retiring, Travis has continued his public service as a Gwinnett County poll manager and as a member of the Lawrenceville Financial Review Board.

In remarks to the audience, Travis highlighted the city’s diversity. “We celebrate it. We embrace it. It is our superpower,” he said. “You don’t have to look like me, sound like me, pray like me, or love like me for me to care about you and want to make sure you live your best life in Lawrenceville.”

Council Member Bryant Harris (Post 4) was sworn in with Gwinnett County Sheriff Jonathan Keybo Taylor holding the Bible. A lifelong Lawrenceville resident, Harris has devoted more than 24 years to public service at both the local and national levels. His career includes service as a United States Marine, probation officer, member of the Secret Service Uniformed Division, and more than two decades with the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office.

A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Harris currently serves as a major with the Sheriff’s Office and has led divisions including training, field operations, and family violence. In 2023, he was appointed chief of staff to Sheriff Keybo Taylor, and in 2025 he assumed command of the Training Section. Harris holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Catawba College and a master’s degree in emergency management from the University of Maryland Global Campus. He has also coached Little League football in the Gwinnett Football League for 17 years, mentoring young athletes through the program.

Harris thanked his family, friends, and supporters and emphasized his commitment to inclusive leadership. “Change in leadership does not mean that you will not be represented,” he said. “I am committed to being a leader who listens first, seeks common ground, and builds bridges between different perspectives.”

Hooper Renwick

This story is a work of fiction. While inspired by real places and history, all characters, events, and mysteries are entirely imagined.

Before it became a museum and community landmark, Hooper-Renwick serves as the setting for a fictional mystery about secrets that were never meant to surface. When author A.B. Kearney visits the historic building for a routine book club meeting, she stumbles upon a hidden cabinet sealed behind a wall—and a mystery buried for more than seventy years.

Inside is an erased student record, unsettling documents, and a handwritten warning:
“Do not open until justice can speak.”
