
Gwinnett County Hiring Warming Station Attendants for Overnight Essential Worker Shifts This Winter

The positions are seasonal, part-time roles running from November 1, 2025 through March 31, 2026, with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year. While the roles are not eligible for benefits, paid leave, or holidays, they offer purpose-driven work and flexible scheduling during critical weather events.
Overnight Shifts and Responsibilities
Warming Station Attendants work overnight shifts from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. at any of the five Gwinnett County Warming Stations when activated due to cold weather. Attendants are considered essential workers, meaning they may be required to report during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and weather emergencies.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing overnight operations at warming stations
- Supporting guests with empathy, dignity, and respect
- Enforcing station rules and safety protocols
- Completing site setup, cleanup, and organization
- Maintaining accurate attendance logs and reports
- Monitoring behavior and reporting incidents or emergencies
- Communicating effectively with supervisors and team members
- Providing transportation using a county vehicle when assigned
- Adapting quickly to schedule changes during inclement weather
Some attendants may also drive a shuttle to safely transport residents to and from warming stations, including during Advanced In-Person Voting and Election Days, as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in social services or social work
- One year of experience working with homeless or underserved communities
- One year of experience in community outreach or nonprofit work
Because of the sensitive nature of the role, candidates must pass a public safety background check, which may include motor vehicle records, criminal history, credit checks, and fingerprinting. Reliable transportation, punctuality, flexibility, and strong communication skills are required.

- Grade: 97
- Salary: Dependent on education and experience
