Thermacell, a leading manufacturer of zone mosquito repellents, has announced the relocation of its operations in Gwinnett County with the development of a new 256,000-square-foot facility. This $4 million investment will increase the company’s overall capacity by 38%, allowing Thermacell to meet rising market demand and continue fostering a thriving, employee-centric workplace.
Innovative Mosquito Repellent Technology Driving Growth
Thermacell’s award-winning rechargeable mosquito repellent technology provides a 20-foot zone of protection, utilizing the only EPA-registered formula designed to keep mosquitoes away without chemical sprays or lotions. Unlike traditional solutions, Thermacell’s repellents operate through heat-activated technology, making them people- and pet-friendly while effectively repelling mosquitoes that may carry West Nile Virus, Zika Virus, and Encephalitis.
“Our mission is to provide a better, safer way to repel mosquitoes,” said Rebecca Illsley, Chief Operating Officer at Thermacell. “This expansion is about more than just increasing capacity—it’s about supporting our employees, improving processes, and strengthening our impact in the community.”
Economic Impact and Workforce Expansion
Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson underscored the significance of this investment, stating, “Thermacell’s expansion in Gwinnett contributes to our local economic development and enhances the resources available to our community.”
The new facility at 3157 Buford Highway will centralize Thermacell’s operations, consolidating its current distribution center on Gainesville Highway and its manufacturing facility on Distribution Drive in Buford. Thermacell employs 60 full-time workers, with 52% in direct labor roles, and will also provide seasonal employment for up to 75 temporary workers from May to September. The larger space positions Thermacell for long-term growth, offering room for additional workforce expansion over the next decade.
This expansion is expected to have a significant economic impact on Gwinnett County. The increase in job opportunities will not only benefit the local workforce but also stimulate small businesses and service providers in the surrounding area. More employment opportunities lead to increased consumer spending, benefiting local retailers, restaurants, and housing markets. Additionally, the expansion is likely to attract other businesses in the manufacturing and logistics sectors, strengthening Buford’s reputation as a hub for industry growth. The infusion of $4 million in capital investment reinforces Gwinnett’s position as a business-friendly region with a strong emphasis on job creation and economic resilience.
Community and Leadership Support for Thermacell Expansion
Mayor Phillip Beard of Buford expressed his enthusiasm for the company’s growth, stating, “Thermacell’s expansion aligns with Buford’s values of innovation and community engagement. We look forward to the positive impact this will bring to our local economy and residents.”
Andrew Hickey, Partnership Gwinnett Economic Development Director, emphasized the importance of the move, noting, “Thermacell’s decision to expand in Buford demonstrates Gwinnett’s strength as a hub for logistics and manufacturing. Their investment will enhance employment opportunities and solidify the region’s appeal to innovative companies.”
