Mayor Still and City Council Recognize Outstanding Students in the Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders Program

Lawrenceville recently celebrated an inspiring milestone at the March City Council Meeting, recognizing students who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and civic engagement through the Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders (L3) Program. Mayor David Still, along with City Council members, honored students from Central Gwinnett, Discovery, GSMST, Maxwell, and Phoenix high schools for their remarkable achievements and contributions to the community.

A Legacy of Leadership and Community

Founded in 2022 through a partnership with Impact 46, Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders is a vibrant youth leadership initiative designed to cultivate a legacy of empowered, civically-aware students in the Lawrenceville community. Over eight transformative months, students gain invaluable experiences in local governance, leadership development, and community involvement.

Program Highlights:

  • Duration: 8-month program beginning annually in August
  • Eligibility: Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors at Central Gwinnett, Discovery, GSMST, Maxwell, or Phoenix High Schools
  • Cost: Completely free for participants
  • Activities Include: Interactive workshops, leadership training, civic education, and networking with local leaders

Goals of the Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders Program:

  • Foster student success, resilience, and leadership skills
  • Actively engage students within the six community sectors: Government, Non-profits, Churches, Local Businesses, Schools, and Neighborhoods
  • Build community pride and a sense of unified city identity
  • Enhance student understanding of civic responsibilities
  • Promote diversity, inclusion, and community engagement

Opportunities Awaiting Participants:

  • Active participation in dynamic workshops and speaker series
  • Increased access to paid internships through the Summer of Impact Program
  • Leadership roles in creating and hosting a youth-led community event informed by local feedback

How to Apply:

  • Who: Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from Central Gwinnett, Discovery, GSMST, Maxwell, or Phoenix high schools
  • Deadline: Applications and nominations accepted online through April 21, 2025
