Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office Makes History with Prestigious Award

The Gwinnett District Attorney’s Office, led by District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson, achieved a groundbreaking milestone yesterday as the first prosecutorial office in the nation to receive the prestigious FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Trilogy Award. This award recognizes outstanding leadership, commitment to law enforcement excellence, and fostering innovative practices and partnerships across agencies.

D.A. Patsy Austin-Gatson, a trailblazer as the first woman and person of color elected to the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit, is committed to justice, fairness, and the safety of Gwinnett County. Her administration prioritizes restorative justice to decrease recidivism and reduce mass incarceration while ensuring accountability for those who commit crimes. She also emphasizes second chances, protecting victims, and steering young people away from the criminal justice system.

The ceremony took place at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center Auditorium, drawing a crowd of residents and stakeholders. D.A. Austin-Gatson expressed her pride in receiving the award, highlighting it as a testament to her office’s dedication to progressive change and equity in justice.

With 34 years of legal experience, D.A. Austin-Gatson has built a career rooted in public service and advocacy. A graduate of Emory University School of Law and Syracuse University, she has practiced in criminal and civil matters, managed teams, and implemented initiatives focused on community impact. Before her election, she served as Supervising Attorney in the Gwinnett County Solicitor’s Office, where she championed records restrictions and managed a team of 25 staff members.

Her leadership and historic achievement inspire the next generation of young people to pursue careers in law and public service. The Trilogy Award marks another step forward in her vision for Gwinnett County—a community rooted in equity, safety, and transformative justice.
