Summer Camps Are Getting Ready! With the school year drawing to a close, Gwinnett County is stepping in to help parents balance work and family life by offering staff-led summer day camps for children ages 5 to 13. Operating Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., these week-long camps deliver a blend of educational enrichment, outdoor exploration, and affordable childcare—all under the supervision of trained counselors.

Why This Program Matters
For many Gwinnett families, summer break can bring as much stress as relief. Without school-based care, working parents often scramble for safe, reliable options. Gwinnett’s camps fill that gap, ensuring children remain active, engaged, and learning even after classrooms close their doors. By providing hands-on activities—from nature hikes and arts and crafts to age-specific games and music—campers nurture both physical health and social skills throughout the summer months.

Accessible and Affordable
Recognizing that childcare costs can strain household budgets, Gwinnett County offers financial assistance through the Childcare and Parent Services (CAPS) program. Qualifying low-income families may receive subsidies to cover camp fees while parents work, attend school, or participate in job-related training. Daily lunch is provided via shelf-stable meals (or campers may bring their own), and all locations adhere to Healthy Eating and Physical Activity standards to encourage nutritious habits and regular exercise.

Safety and Quality You Can Count On
Gwinnett’s summer camps are CAPS-approved and exempt from Georgia DECAL licensure requirements, but that doesn’t mean corners are cut. Counselors undergo background checks, CPR and first-aid certification, and specialized training in behavior management and age-appropriate programming. With a low counselor-to-camper ratio, strict check-in/check-out procedures, and secure facilities—ranging from air-conditioned gyms to wooded playgrounds—parents can rest assured their children are in good hands.

Multiple Locations, One Easy Registration
Camps will be held at community-based facilities across the county, including Best Friend Park Gym, the Bill Atkinson Animal Welfare Center, Bogan Park Recreation Center, George Pierce Park Recreation Center, Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center, Lilburn Activity Building, Lucky Shoals Park Recreation Center, Mountain Park Activity Building and Depot, OneStop Buford, Pinckneyville Park Recreation Center, Rhodes Jordan Park Recreation Center, and Shorty Howell Park Activity Building.

With structured days, expert staff, and engaging activities, Gwinnett’s summer camps offer both peace of mind for parents and a fun, growth-filled season for kids.
