The groundbreaking for Beaver Ruin Wetland Park has officially taken place, marking the launch of a pioneering sustainability endeavor. This project is a joint effort between Gwinnett Water Resources and Gwinnett Parks and Recreation.
In the initial phase, Gwinnett Water Resources is dedicated to enhancing our local ecosystems by restoring wetlands, stabilizing stream banks, enhancing habitats, eradicating invasive species, and planting native vegetation.
As the project moves into Phase 2, the park, which covers 86 acres, will feature a variety of facilities for both locals and visitors. These will include a 12-foot-wide loop trail boardwalk, a cutting-edge wildlife observation tower, a spacious open play lawn, and a creative playground.
The funding for this project comes from the 2017 SPLOST program, the County’s Recreation Fund, and the Watershed Improvement Program. The project aims to achieve a platinum-level certification from the Sustainable Sites Initiative, which would be a first for the state of Georgia.
Phase 1 is expected to be completed by June 2024, with Phase 2 following in 2025.
