The Greater Eastside Alliance Inc. (GEA), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, in collaboration with the Greater Eastside Chamber of Commerce (GECC), has announced the appointment of Karen Mulzac-Watkins as Vice President of Workforce Development. With an extensive background in business, public service, and nonprofit leadership, Watkins is set to spearhead initiatives that bridge the gap between workforce readiness and sustainable economic development across the Greater Eastside region of Georgia.
A Proven Leader in Workforce and Economic Development
Watkins brings a wealth of experience to the role, holding a bachelor’s degree in biology and an MBA from Penn State University. She has held key positions in supply chain management and strategic sourcing at major global corporations, including JLL and CBRE, where she implemented efficiency-driven strategies that improved operations.
Beyond her corporate expertise, Watkins has demonstrated a strong commitment to community development as the co-founder of Community Outreach Resources, Inc., an organization dedicated to increasing access to essential services for underserved populations. Her dedication to service was recognized at the national level when she received the President’s Lifetime Achievement Service Award in 2024, a testament to her long-standing impact on workforce and economic empowerment.

In her new role, Watkins will lead strategic workforce initiatives, including regional skills assessments, customized training programs, and employer partnerships, aimed at strengthening the local labor market. A key component of her vision involves the creation of physical and virtual training hubs, which will offer certifications, apprenticeships, and career development resources tailored to the evolving needs of the economy.
