A major step toward improving mental health and community support in Gwinnett County is underway. County officials have officially broken ground on the Gwinnett Community Resource Center on Grayson Highway, a three-story, 84,232-square-foot facility that will provide critical mental health, childhood development, veteran support, and family services.
With Gwinnett County now home to over 1 million residents, the need for accessible mental and behavioral health care is greater than ever. In partnership with View Point Health, this new center will house Gwinnett’s first inpatient stabilization unit with 30 beds, offering 24/7 crisis care for individuals in urgent need.
What the Resource Center Will Offer
This new facility isn’t just a health center—it’s a hub of essential community services, featuring:
✅ Offices and counseling rooms for mental health support
✅ A 300-person community room for public meetings and events
✅ Classrooms and playgrounds for childhood development programs
✅ Exam rooms and a medical dispensary
✅ A commercial kitchen to support food programs for those in need
Why This Facility Matters for Gwinnett
Gwinnett residents have long struggled with access to mental health care, and many families have faced barriers to critical services. This center is designed to fill those gaps, making it easier for individuals and families to get help without traveling across the county. With population growth and increasing demand for crisis intervention, having a local inpatient facility means fewer people falling through the cracks.
Where Is the Funding Coming From?
The Gwinnett Community Resource Center is being funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA)—not local tax increases, according to officials. However, some residents remain skeptical.
Concerns from the Community
Gwinnett resident Theresa Neikens Feeney raised concerns about the county’s spending, asking:
“Didn’t Gwinnett County just buy apartment property on Peachtree for this exact reason?? Where are they getting the money???? Taxes are probably going up again. 🤬 If it’s not in the budget, you cannot raise taxes to pay for it!”
While county officials emphasize that federal ARPA funds are covering the project, some worry about future costs—especially when it comes to maintaining and staffing the facility long-term. With property values rising, many homeowners fear another tax increase could be on the horizon.
What’s Next?
Despite concerns, county leaders believe this center will be a game-changer for the community, offering life-changing services to families, veterans, and those struggling with mental health challenges. Construction is now underway, and Gwinnett residents can expect updates as the project moves forward.
